Finance and Economy Minister Harold Lovell is heading Antigua & Barbuda’s delegation to the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Washington DC this week.
Among the issues to be discussed are the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness.
About 13,000 ministers of finance and development, central bankers, private sector executives, representatives of international and non-governmental organisations and academics are expected to attend the October 8-10 meetings.
Antigua and Barbuda’s delegation will use the opportunity to hold a series of bi-lateral consultations, among them with the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID). The government recently rescheduled its $800,000 debt to OFID free of interest.
Minister Lovell is expected to participate in the Small States Forum, and will also join other Caribbean government representatives at the Washington meetings during a special session on regional economic developments. Antigua & Barbuda’s delegation is also scheduled to meet with the World Bank Country Director for the Caribbean.
