Opposition Members Attend OECS Economic Meeting

MP Gaston Browne and MP Molwyn JosephAntigua St John's - Deputy Leader of the Opposition Antigua Labour Party Gaston Browne and Member of Parliament Molwyn Joseph are in St. Lucia attending a one-day meeting on the OECS Economic Union.

MPs Browne and Joseph met with opposition members of parliament from around the OECS to receive an update on the implementation of the OECS Economic Union and engage in matters which require a shared responsibility under the revised Treaty of Basseterre.

Of particular importance to the discussions is the issue of the composition and functions of the OECS Assembly which will be headquartered in Antigua and the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

Both Government and Opposition Members of Parliament have nominated D.Gisele Isaac-Arrindell as the Speaker of the OECS General Assembly which will have its inaugural meeting on June 15 in Antigua.

The Assembly of Parliamentarians is the OECS organ required to serve as a forum for deliberation on primary and secondary legislation proposed for the organisation.

The Assembly is to comprise parliamentarians chosen from elected government and opposition members of national legislatures, reflecting as nearly as possible the proportionate representation of government and opposition members in the legislatures at the time of selection.

In accordance with the Revised Treaty of Basseterre, the selection is to be made by the corresponding government or opposition side, with the Head of Government and the Leader of the Opposition of the Member State being one of the government members and opposition members respectively.

MP Gaston Browne MP Molwyn Joseph’s participation in the one-day meeting in St. Lucia, chaired by the OECS Chairman and Prime Minister of St. Lucia Dr. Kenny Anthony, is facilitated by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.

CRYING TIME AGAIN

Gaston, I support you, Molwyn is not too bad as others paint him, a strategic move by the ALP, unity is shown to the public. This is a retreat, indirect association via attending a one day meeting on the OECS Union. Give Lester Bird some credit, he truly knows the political game, and how to appease the public. Your move now Lester, as a master chess or warri player, a bronze medal long jumper and one of Antigua former great fast bowler, you knowm what that is...dont you?

Notes From A Native Son of The Rock. Make no mistake about this Transaction. As in the words of a famous and powerful Vice President: "This is a Big FC UKing Deal". Nation Building, in all of its forms, requires a Shared Vision and Agreement of the Electorate. These Visions and Actions must be discussed with the People of the Nation. "Not After the Fact as an After Thought".
May cynics have openly stated that the Politicians "wash each others' backs, that discussions in Parliament mean jack since they joyously quaff champagne with each other and ensure that the money is shared and passed from one hand to the other".
Colin Sampson may be absolutely correct in his **sment that: Quote:
In a manner of speaking, ... While the average, less-than-observant person might be hard put to tell the difference, ....
While all members of the houses of parliament are legislators, not all legislators are politicians. ... The reference here is to ... ability to deliver a statement that, taken at face value, would seem disingenuous and make it sound as matter-of-fact and undeniable as a comment on the weather.
Reconciliation!
Heaven Help A&B and The OECS!

Truth, Honesty & Justice The Antiguan Way! PT1

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock. Spending summers in Guadeloupe for french immersion, this phrase was quickly learned:Quote:
"plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose" - usually translated as "the more things change, the more they stay the same,"
Is this the long felt hope for Truth & Reconciliation? Quote:
Both Government and Opposition Members of Parliament have nominated D.Gisele Isaac-Arrindell as the Speaker of the OECS General Assembly which will have its inaugural meeting on June 15 in Antigua.
Who were the GoAB MP's?
How do the Opposition Members explain this action to the "Bewildered Electorate" and moreso to the Red Party Faithful?
Can the Red Party Faithfull and "Bewildered Electorate" now assume that the Good Hon. Speaker of the House has the Confidence, Respect and Blessings of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition? Can You, "My Dear Good People" expect that it will be Meet, Right & Good for the Speaker to exercise her talent in this August Body, and by extension is most fit to Preside after the Next Election?
Why are these actions being taken with nary a discussion with the Nation?
Who gives a Fig?
