Antigua St John's - The Lions Club of Antigua installed Lion Lenox Looby as its 43rd president, for the fiscal year 2011/2012, at a formal installation ceremony at the Sticky Wicket Restaurant on June 25.
Looby has been an active member of The Lions Club for the past eight years. In his inaugural speech, he indicated his commitment to leading various projects and continuing the Club’s pledge to serve.
The theme for the 2011/2012 year is “I Believe it’s Fun to Serve”.
The other members of the new board are:1st Vice President Lion Eural Baptiste II, 2nd Vice President Lion Reginald Peterson, Secretary Lion Roslyn Zachariah, Treasurer Lion Sabrina Benjamin, Tamer Lion Kim Joseph, Tailtwister Lion Virgil Daniel, Directors - Lions Nelecia Yates and Gladston Joseph MJF. The outgoing president is Lion Leslie Ephraim MJF.
The installation was conducted by Lion Gerry Benjamin MJF.
Another highlight of the evening was the naming of the Lion of the Year 2010/2011. The recipient this year was Lion Franklyn Maynard, who has performed above and beyond the call of duty.
The Leo Club of Antigua, the junior arm of the Lions, also installed new officers during the ceremony. Leo Anthea Gore was installed as the president, Leo Tanya Williams - vice president, Leo Shanice Francis - secretary, Leo Tamisha Carr - treasurer and Leo Germina Jno-Finn - director. The Leo president’s theme is, “Uniting Lives Through Service”.
Since the club’s chartering in 1968, the Antigua Lions Club members have worked on a variety of projects in the local community, including weekly hot meals delivery, monthly visits to bring cheer to the patients at the Mental Hospital, prostate screening, breast screening, food delivery around the communities of Antigua.
