Weekend Mango Pineapple Culinary Competition

Mango Pineapple culinary competitionAntigua St John's - Several of Antigua’s top chefs and bartenders are getting set to battle at the Sixth Annual Mango Pineapple Culinary Competition this weekend in the demo kitchen of the Antigua & Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute at Dutchman’s Bay.

The two-day event is scheduled to begin on Saturday at 8 am.

The event will feature chefs from several of the island’s top resorts and restaurants, whose task will be to prepare delectable dishes using local mangoes and the Antigua Black Pineapple.

The highlight of the two-day affair will be the bartenders' competition, where Antigua’s finest “mixologists” will dazzle the judges with their showmanship as they attempt to concoct the tastiest drinks using local fruit.

On Sunday, July 10, the top chefs and bartenders will participate in the final round of the competition.

Additionally, there will be a showdown of the country’s premier pastry chefs, who will vie to create the most eye-catching and mouth-watering mango-pineapple desserts.

Entrants will be graded on cooking technique, creativity, and taste by a panel of judges featuring an international celebrity judge.

Patrons will be able to sample the dishes and purchase other mango-pineapple creations as they enjoy the festive atmosphere and music by Chickie’s Hi Fi.

The Mango Pineapple Culinary Competition forms a part of the Sixth Annual Mango Festival, which aims to encourage the consumption of local produce.

The competition went very well. Yes, some of th eequipoment might not have worked perfectly, but this is real life. In the restaraunt industry, manyu times you will come to work with soem of your equipment not working. I was so proud to be part of this wonderful competition. I am also very proud of all of the chefs, pastry chefs, and bartenders. Each one should be very proud of their accomplishments . I have many pictures posted on my web page at http://www.chefshelpingchefs.com/mango.htm Please look at the photos. Again, i hope to see everyone again next year.

The demo kitchen is as stated a demo kitchen. It is not equipped with enough ovens, work stations, pastry areas, stoves for a function which is a competition between top chefs. It is almost like saying you are going to use your daughter's barbie oven to cook for the family. So before you get too defensive try to get the facts. I believe just as a student said that they went through a lot of trouble to say demo to separate it from all the allegations of exploitation which has been taking place in the actual kitchen.

Maybe you have not been following all the exploitation that has been happening at ABHTI or maybe your head has been buried in the sand but Why Gerry asked the question is that the demo kitchen is to be used by students to learn to prepare food. This does not happen and in actuality the students are thrown to the fire from day one to prepare food that the public eats. So it is curious that now that an event with actual professional chefs is being held that they would go through so much trouble to specify demo kitchen. You might also think that it is fair for an academic institution to be have this and other events directly in the middle of the students' exams which are still going on

I mean no disrepect to you; but instead of a vast majority of us always looking for something to critisize, here is an event that we should all support. I have great appreciation for what the paper says: 'The Mango Pineapple Culinary Competition forms a part of the Sixth Annual Mango Festival, which aims to encourage the consumption of local produce."

I wonder why they are making such a great effort to specify that the event will be held in the "demo kitchen"?
