Pre-Easter Seafood Fiesta Planned

Pre-Easter Seafood Fiesta Antigua, St John's - The Ministry of Agriculture is gearing up for its free pre-Easter Seafood Fiesta on Sunday April 3 at the Urlings Wharf. Wholesome family activity is promised, starting from around noon.

Organisers called on seafood lovers to treat their taste buds to a variety of dishes including grilled lobster, conch water, fried and grilled fish, seafood pizza, oysters, sea crab, crab cakes, and shrimp.

This is the sixth seafood fiesta being staged in two years to promote sustainable livelihood.

The grill will feature local chefs who will share their secrets for preparing mouthwatering cuisine, particularly fresh seafood.

Dont cook the snail!

I am totally opposed to the Giant African Snail being on the seafood fiesta menu. even if its a creature that Minister Baptiste favors, it is wrong for him to promote them because of the health risks involved. It is unfortunate that this irresponsible behavior is being promoted by the minister responsible for food safety. Its time for someone who really know what they are doing, preferably a christian and someone who doesn't lie, to take over the leadership of the Ministry.

Wow, they got my hopes up high, thinking there is some LOVE and care for the people of the United Islands of Antigua and Barbuda. It is not free? wow, i had hopes for UPP. I know the Government can't feed everyone but i thought it was a day for the people, just like the minsters have days for themself where they are treated on the tax payer's dime.

Let me state for the record, that the seafood are not for free. I take my family to support the fisher folks and vendors, if you beg too bad for you...

One day of free food for the poor, hungry people. Yes, there are poor hungry people in Antigua and Barbuda.

I do hope everything is distributed fairly.

re Seafood Fiesta

#5 Sea Food Lover » 2011-03-10 07:49

It is of poor taste that persons would begin to incorporate" nasty snails" with a festival to which Antiguans and Barbudans gladly take their families to get a bite, of delicious seafood.

My stomach is churning, i dont even believe i want to attend this seafood fiesta, again, just the taught of snails on a platter is sickening. People need to be more responsible. Move pass Baptiste....It is no secret what he did, but i should not be suffering because of him and your irresponibility . Give Me an Aspirin!

Spread of Snail

#4 Dale » 2011-03-10 06:40

I was driving home along Union road last weekend, when I came across a horde of Giant African Snails crossing the road. How did this infestation reach my community only Minister Baptiste can tell us! I am appealing to the Plant resaerch unit to put more resources into fighting this dangerous pest!

Grilled Snail

#3 Charles » 2011-03-10 05:55

Being an expert cook, I am sure Minister Baptiste can put the Giant African Snail to good use, even though it is government's policy to eradicate it!. If it is indeed on the menu, then It would not be the first place in his constituency that it has put in an appearance. As a matter of fact, I am sure the Minister can tell us how far and wide the Giant African Snail have spread throughout Antigua, being an expert on its movements.

Why Urlins?

#1 Sadie » 2011-03-10 05:46

Why Urlins again? I thought when the concept of the seafood fiesta was developed it was suppose to rotate among Urlins, Point and Parham fisheries complexes. Isn't this a bit selfish for the Minister of Agriculture to have it only in his constituency! Can someone please restore the original intention and FAIRLY and EQUALLY rotate the fiesta among the existing fisheries complexes.
