The nation's top chefs are not the only ones looking forward to this month's Taste of the Caribbean Food and Beverage Festival in Puerto Rico. Kerry-Ann Joseph, a bartender at Sandals Grande Antigua, has risen above the rest to catch the attention of the national team, and will face off against regional and international competitors from September 9 to 12.
The Grays Green resident, a former student of the Antigua & Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute (ABHTI), described herself as hard working and professional.
"Entering this competition opens a new chapter in my life and is the beginning of new things to come," she said. "I promise to represent my country with pride and make my people proud."
The bartender, who graduated with honours from ABHTI and was granted the top student award in her class, dreams of running her own bar someday, on a level never seen before in Antigua.
Anthony Bento, general manager of Premier Beverage has come on board to support the lone bartender on the team.
Joseph is expected to prepare a recipe for drinks to be entered in the rum, vodka, and non-alcoholic segments. For the rum based drink, five-year-old English Harbour Rum is the choice, while Absolute Vodka would be used as the base for the vodka recipe.
