WHEN 40-year-old mum Lisa Bourke went looking for a model for her new swimwear range, she knew who her first model choice would be - herself.
While she said in the past there has been the idea that once women get beyond their 30s they should look for something more sensible in swimwear, she knew there was a growing number like herself who still wanted to throw on a bikini.
"I just kept on seeing that there were a lot of girls like myself who still wanted to look hot," she said yesterday at Swim Fashion Week, Australia's first national swimwear only show on the Gold Coast.
Yesterday she showed off her label, along with a series of younger models, amongst dolpins at Seaworld.
"It's important for women to see someone their age modelling swimwear as they're the ones buying it," she said.
Her bright coloured Lisa Blue bikinis and sexy one pieces may look like the type of cossie just made for sunbaking but the avid surfer said she also made sure they were a sturdy fit.
"I took up surfing at 36 and being a surfer I know what is needed to keep a bikini on in the surf," she said.
The Byron Bay based designer showed her second collection of swimwear at Swim Fashion, and while she is curently sold in Byron Bay and Gold Casot stores, she hopes the event will give her a national platform.
"I'm meeting with buyers from Myer and I would love to see the range being sold around Australia," she said.
A number of Sydney labels have been involved in the inaugral cossie fashion event, run by Australian Fashion Week organisers IMG.

Established Sydney label Zimmermann opened the event on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, Bondi-based label Seventh Wonderland showed last night with Hotel Bondi Swim and Anna and Boy to show tomorrow.
