Antigua Leg of Regional HIV/AIDS Testing Day Dubbed A Success

Led by example Senator Malaka ParkerAntigua St. John’s - AIDS Programme Manager Delcora Williams has described the Antigua leg of the fifth annual HIV/AIDS Regional Testing Day a “major success.”

Yesterday, more than 200 persons accessed free and confidential HIV testing at Scotiabank’s High Street and Woods Mall locations.

“It is critical for everyone to know your status, and the only way to do so is to get tested,” Williams said.

More than six certified HIV/AIDS officials from the Ministry of Health were assigned to conduct the free and confidential testings.

Though pleased with the turnout, Williams advised residents who were unable to access the testings that the programme will continue under the National AIDS Programmes from Monday to Thursday at the AIDS Secretariat within the Ministry of Health, Social Transformation, Consumer Affairs and Local Government.

Several officials from the Ministry of Health led by example and got tested publicly, to include Senator Malaka Parker, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Social Transformation, Consumer Affairs and Local Government. Last year, Minister of Health Willmoth Daniel was among the officials who did likewise.

Senator Parker thanked the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and Community Based Organisations (CBOs) for their partnership with government on this critical nation building exercise.

Among the organisations disseminating and sharing experiences and information were Medical Benefits, Substance Abuse Division, the Directorate of Gender Affairs, Frank B Armstrong, Antigua & Barbuda Health Hope & HIV Network, American University of Antigua, Ministry of Health and Caribbean HIV/AIDS Alliance.

Hundreds of condoms were distributed, and demonstrations of correct usage were done at the two Scotiabank locations.

Acting Country Manager Scotiabank Antigua & Barbuda Gordon Juilen said today’s involvement is a strong symbol of the financial institution’s commitment that testing for HIV and AIDS should neither be feared nor shunned.

The theme for 2012 Regional Testing Day was “A Healthy Lifestyle Getting To Zero New HIV infections.”

I have known this young lady all her life and I happen to think she sets a fine pattern and example for decent, independent, positive young Antiguans and Barbudans. You truly show your ignorance when you come from that angle. I am quite sure you know nothing of the young lady. Poor you

You should show yourself so others can cast judgement on your life style Ms Jackie Spencer. You also prove yourself to be ignorant and shallow if you believe that marriage symbolizes who the better person is. You are also sadly behind in class if you think marriage exempts you from AIDS. Still, it is unfortunate how people always jump to condemn the women parliamentarian s for the slightest nothing. You should let us know who you are so we can compare "individuals"

The Prime, Transformation & Transfiguration of The Parliamentarian !

#2 John French II » 2012-06-30 09:23

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock.
A Noble Cause and the Passionate Example of the Youngest Senator & Parliamentary Secretary - Senator Malaka Parker.

The Medium is the Massage.

The Good Hon. Dr. PM is a Master of the Deal.

Shaka, Chaku, Juno a BEC, & Commissioner 82 be Praised.

The Transformation to Parliamentary Secretary of Senator Parker, yet in her Prime, is a Pivotal Moment in the Nation's History & Development and the setting on the top of Queen Elizabeth Higway will be most pleasing to the Ecclesiastics as well as a "Bewildered & Bemused Electorate" as she employs all of her skills, as a connecting point between her Minister, his Colleagues and Stakeholders.

Hope Springs Eternal! Keep Hope Alive! Keep the Faith!

Heaven Help The Nation Of Antigua & Barbuda Including Barbuda.

Time you speak about positive lifestyles for Politicians! No where else could men and women have many children outside of marriage and still be promoted as Leaders! Condoms and testing are all related to symptoms. Time to work to change lifestyles - starting with you guys in Parliament!
