Nutmeg Recalled Over Salmonella Concerns

photo- pwwwblog.ibeatyou.comAccording to the Food and Drug Administration, two brands of nutmeg have been recalled ahead of the holiday season. Sold under the Frontier brand and Whole Foods Market brand, the spice is believed to have been contaminated with salmonella.

The affected products including Frontier Bulk Nutmeg Ground, 16.00 oz., UPC Code 0-89836-00165-8, Lot Code 0306 and Whole Foods 365 Nutmeg Ground, 1.92 oz., UPC Code 0-99482-41931-8, Lot Code 0321.

On the Frontier bulk package, consumers will find the lot code on the front label above the UPC code. Lot codes on bottled glass items are on the bottom.

Fox News reports the FDA website advised, “Consumption of products containing salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.”

There was no word yet from local authorities on whether these products had been imported into Antigua & Barbuda.

Get your nutmeg direct from Grenada. No salmonella in that.
