A reported infestation of bed bugs at a government department forced it to close on Tuesday. According to an outgoing email from Registrar Cecile Hill, the Land Registry was overrun by bugs and had to be sprayed on Friday afternoon.
The email said, “We stayed open yesterday morning [Monday] to serve you, but the situation is worse today [Tuesday] so regretfully we cannot open this morning. We are hampered by the fact that the building has no adequate ventilation to allow the pesticides to be dispersed quickly."
Caribrena.com has learned that the government department, which is housed in the Ryan Building on High Street, was professionally sprayed by GETCO, but the air-conditioning units were left on, which allowed the fumes to linger in the air up to Tuesday.
The source of the infestation is unknown, but we were told that the insects have been exterminated.
When Caribarena.com contacted Chief Health Inspector Lionel Michael, he said he had received the report, and his department will carry out an assessment. Michael noted that his team was unable to inspect the office, since it was closed on Tuesday. However, he said he would do so on Wednesday morning.

Pipe Dreaming
All of the public buildings should be fumigated on a regular basis. However, this is just me pipe dreaming. These incompetent officials can't even keep the sidewalks in the front of the buildings clean.
