Antigua St John’s – Under the theme “Live normal, Live well, Manage Sickle Cell”, the Antigua & Barbuda Sickle Cell Association will open its week of activities this Sunday with a service at St. John’s Pentecostal Church on Lauchland Benjamin Drive.
The next day, June 18, doctors will make the rounds to various media houses to disseminate information about the disease.
World Sickle Cell Day will be observed the world over on Tuesday, June 19 and locally the Sickle Cell Office at the Holberton Hospital Compound will host an opening ceremony and Open Day from 9 am.
Other activities for the week include visiting clients at home on Wednesday, lectures and educational sessions at Mount St. John’s Medical Center conducted by doctors on Thursday, and a Cocktail Fundraiser at Sugar Ridge Hotel on Friday. Tickets are on sale and there are exciting door prizes to be won.
The culminating activity will be a Walk for Sickle Cell on June 23 through the streets of St John’s from 9 am. This will start and end at Judgement where light refreshments will be on sale.
