Antigua St John's - Mount St John’s Medical Centre has been given $30,000 from the estate of the late Reginald Gordon. The gift was presented by Millicent Percival, the executor of the estate.
According to Percival, who was appointed trustee of the will in 1983, "Mr Gordon had stated in his will that on the death of his wife, the interest from the fixed deposit should be paid to the Children’s Ward at the Holberton Hospital, who may need specialist attention.
"Mrs Gordon died in the late nineties, and I have been paying the interest on the fixed deposit to the Ministry of Health, to be passed on to the Children’s Ward at the Holberton Hospital.”
Holberton Hospital is no longer functioning as a hospital, so the current interest ($30,000) on the fixed deposits for 2011 was donated to Mount St John’s Medical Centre.
“While the health professionals treat our patients and search for answers to the great medical mysteries, there are others who have toiled, usually quietly in the shadows, raising money for medical equipment, charitable donations, and other projects, and serving as goodwill ambassadors for the hospital in the community.
"This gesture of generosity will be absolutely transformative for MSJMC and our community," said Samuel Aymer, chairman of the board at MSJMC. "The hospital is very grateful.”
