Antigua St John's - Chief Medical Officer Dr Rhonda Sealey-Thomas has been nominated to serve as the vice chairperson of the Commonwealth Advisory Committee on Health (CACH).
The CACH is a committee that advises the Commonwealth Secretariat on matters of public health concern and interest to the Commonwealth.
It is comprised of 16 people representing governments, regional organisations, and civil society organisations, and assists the health section of the Commonwealth Secretariat to develop a feasible programme of work, review the provisional agenda of the annual Health Ministers Meeting, advise on matters on the agenda of the World Health Assembly of the World Health Organization, and advise the Health Section on useful adjustments to proposed activities.
Minister of Health Wilmoth Daniel recommended Dr Sealey-Thomas to serve on the CACH for three years. She is currently in London attending a CACH meeting.
Agenda items at that meeting include communicable and non-communicable diseases, malaria, child health issues, and the agenda of the Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting to be held in May 2012.
