Antigua, St John's - The third annual street fair organised by the Citizen’s Welfare Division as part of Social Work Week garnered quite a bit of support Wednesday from members of the public.
The event attracted about 30 social partners, including the AIDS Secretariat, the Medical Benefits Scheme, the Substance Abuse Prevention Unit, the St John Ambulance Association, the Community Development Division, and the Lion’s Club.
Also participating were staff from the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS), members of the Glaucoma Support Group, which screened attendees, and the American University of Antigua, which also conducted screenings.
A new participant this year was “Step by Step Productions,” out of Barbados, which is promoting a movie called Hush which focuses on social issues like sexual abuse.
According to Acting Chief Welfare Officer Cindy Price, the main purpose of the fair was to bring awareness to the work of these organisations and the various social issues which affect the country. Price was pleased with the level of support.
Minister of Health and Social Transformation Wilmoth Daniel, Permanent Secretary Worthene George, and other ministry officials were also on hand.
