Amazing Grace Home to Downsize Operations

Amazing Grace Home to Downsize OperationsAntigua St. John's - At the end of July, the Amazing Grace Foundation will be downsizing its operations as part of efforts to keep the organization running.

The downsizing could possibly affect the 24-hour care system the organization has become known for.

This is according to Chairman of the Board of Directors of the organization Clarence Pilgrim, who says that financial instability continues to rock the Foundation that caters to persons with special needs.

The Amazing Grace Foundation opened its doors in 1998 to offer residential and other services to persons with special needs, and has since been performing its charitable services without obstruction.

The organization not too long ago underwent an expansion of its physical facility, but it appears that the economic challenges which Antigua & Barbuda is facing are threatening it’s operations.

Pilgrim said the potential of the foundation’s doors being closed still exists if assistance is not given.

He said greater focus will be paid to providing day care services for persons with special needs, and added that as part of the effort to keep its services open, the management will be insisting on active donations in place of the “free of cost” service that was provided

Caribarena understands that at a meeting held at the home on Monday 23rd, 2012 at 3:30pm, the staff reiterated their support for management’s efforts to keep the home operational, while reserving as a final option closing down, if the needed level of donations is not forthcoming from both society generally, and the relatives who use the home’s services.

“The Management of the organisation is appealing for support to continue its charitable operations,” Pilgrim said.

Earlier this month, Pilgrim had launched an appeal for donations to the foundation.

His calls came on the heels of the launch of a massive improvement initiative by Digicel for the Clarevue Psychiatric Hospital, which is itself facing financial and operational difficulties.

Donations to the foundation may be made at the Eastern Caribbean Amalgamated Bank (ECAB) under account name Amazing Grace and account number #500327.

This has very dire implications, we are so financially strapped that we can no longer help the less fortunate, What is the government doing about this? They should try to keep Amazing grace foundation afloat as they have nothing else to offer these unfortunate souls but fines institute. I am quite disgusted by this

Good luck to the folks at Amazing Grace, however offering any service "free of Cost' in these bad economic times is simply not practical at this time! I used to contribute but I no longer have the kind of funds to do so due to the bad economy. Lets face it, a lot of us would like to help but we simply can't afford to! We ahve to look after ourselves first! My prayers and best wishes are with you.

UPP strikes Again!!!

#1 Sampson » 2012-07-24 04:06

With all the heavy taxes and bad economic policies of the UPP Government, the business community is being driven out of existance and simply are unable to give to charitable organisations like Amazing Grace, Red Cross, Sunshine Home for Girls, Jaycees and other worthy organisations! May elections come so that we can be relieved of this "blue plague!"
