Antigua St. John’s - Local cancer support group Breast Friends donated a number of food items to the Oncology (Outpatient) Unit at Mount St. John’s Medical Center (MSJMC) last week.
“It’s a real highlight to get to the point for making a donation. There is no small event and each of our donors gives with lots of passion, just like the participants in the Digicel Supermarket Sweeps promotion,” Breast Friends President Eunetta Bird said.
“Winners of the promotion had to share the winnings with a charity and our organisation was chosen by one of the winners, Jerome Henry. We’re so thankful to Mr. Henry and to Digicel, one of our longstanding donors and partner in the fight against breast cancer. That event allowed us to be able to donate $500 worth of supplies to the Oncology Unit at the hospital.”
In accepting the timely donation, Head of Marketing & Communications at MSJMC Salma Crump said, “We’re extremely thankful for the support of organisations such as Breast Friends (and others) that have been supporting our Oncology Unit, sometimes in ways that the hospital cannot.
“Usually our patients are here for treatment for four plus hours and sometimes longer and it’s important for us to make them feel as comfortable as possible. This is just another component of the care we offer because of the help we get from others.
We look to these groups as partners in the fight towards saving lives ultimately that’s what it’s all about.”
Breast Friends depends on the generosity of many donors to be able to help the women they support. All of their services are free.
