Antigua & Barbuda will join the rest of CARICOM to celebrate Caribbean Energy Awareness Week (EAW) from November 7 to 11. According to a release, the Energy Desk within the Office of the Prime Minister has formulated a week of activities aimed at raising national awareness on the careful use of energy and the resources used for making energy available in people’s everyday life.
The theme is, “Clean technology for a sustainable economy."
During EAW, people will be educated in various aspects of sustainable energy use, the importance of energy in our modern lives, ways to avoid wasting energy, current forms, and future options for the provision and use of energy, and how these processes may enable residents to save money.
The 2011 CARICOM Energy Awareness Week will begin on November 7 with the official message from Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer, signaling the start of the week, followed by a panel discussion at 8 pm on ABS TV’s Monday Night Live. Public Awareness Day. Tuesday November 8 will see numerous energy stakeholders making the rounds to various media houses and sharing “clean energy”
information with the public. This day will also see the launch of an OAS student energy education program.
On Wednesday November 9, the Prime Minister’s National Public Speaking and Debate Competition will take center stage at the Multi-Purpose and Cultural Center, beginning at 7 pm. A release said presentation topics would soon be released, and there are top prizes to be won. The Energy Awareness Street Fair will be held in St John’s on November 10. The week will culminate with Field Trip Day on Friday November 11.
