The public will be able to share ideas for the use of renewable energy when the government convenes a National Consultation on Renewable Energy on March 18. The time and venue are to be announced.
The feedback from the consultation will feed into a National Sustainable Energy Policy to be drafted by the National Energy Task Force established by Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer.
“The government is committed to furthering the use of renewable energy in Antigua & Barbuda," said Chief Implementation Officer Joan Underwood. "We can generate much of our energy needs by harnessing the power of the sun and the wind. This consultation will allow people to help the government in crafting and implementing its renewable energy agenda.”
A release said the government’s efforts to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels have been recognized by several key partners, including CARICOM and OAS, who have pledged to assist with developing and implementing its energy policy.
Last week, a three-member mission from the CARICOM Secretariat and the Caribbean Renewable Energy Development Programme (CREDP) held discussions with national stakeholders to examine ways to assist Antigua & Barbuda’s quest to tap into renewable energy sources.
