Antigua St John's - Culture Minister Eleston Adams has said no money was allocated to assist reigning Party Monarch Gerald "Hard Knoxx" Lewis, who will represent Antigua & Barbuda at the International Soca competition in Trinidad & Tobago next month.
Hard Knoxx and members of his group Juggle For Life are already in Port of Spain for the competition.
They reportedly left Antigua early to participate in several fetes leading up to Carnival there, and to seek exposure through media appearances.
On Wednesday, Hard Knoxx's manager, Shawn "Danski" Ryan, told Observer Radio the group had run out of money in Trinidad and needed assistance.
But Adams, who also heard the statements on radio, said no promises were made to Hard Knoxx to assist him with his expenses in Trinidad. “We have provided him with 10 tickets, valued at $12,000, for him and his crew to travel to Port of Spain," Adams said.
"The CDC did not tell him to go to Trinidad for two months. I advised him that when others went to participate in the show, example Tian Winter and Claudette Peters, they applied to the Cabinet for assistance and received between $20,000 and $30,000 to help with their participation."
According to the minister, Hard Knoxx did not apply for such assistance. He said when he met with the artist last week, he was informed that Hard Knoxx and his crew had $86,000(TT).
“If they left for Trinidad on Monday with that much money, how is it that they have run out of money this soon?” the minister queried. “I believe all this is in an effort to pressure the government and to seek sympathy from the public."

Hard Knoxxx needs to go to Fort Knox
How much money did Young Destroyer get when he went and BANG them on the international stage?
This ain't even a case of defending Antigua. This is a T&T show full of T&T contestants and put on by a private company.
Having said all of that ... the CDC has to see the value of promoting our Soca artists abroad to HELP OUR CARNIVAL. And that is the BIGGEST stage for Soca. They should make sure our artists are well prepared to go down there and be a good CDC crowned Monarch. And it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that they should put aside some of the $780,000 that they are to pay out to the same Soca artists this year to guarantee the winner has something to work with ... who don't like it don't enter you are keeping the CDC brand top notch.

This government is a joke. Take the money from the Tourism budget because this is exposure for Antigua on an international scale. You cannot pay for the type of advertising having our artist perform in these types of venues can provide.
Namba is a joke & so is the UPP..
