The popular Myst mas troupe has lost its headquarters as the government clears the way for the construction of a maritime division on Old Parham Road.
Bulldozers pulled down the wood and concrete structure over the weekend, leaving a huge heap of rubble instead of the building used to host the mas troupe's activities during the annual Carnival celebrations.
One of the principles in the troupe, Michael Freeland, told Caribarena.com, “It’s government property and it falls under maritime." He brushed aside the setback as a minor loss.
“They (the government) are actually going to build a maritime division and a (home) for the Investment Authority,” said Freeland.
When asked whether the government could have waited until after Carnival celebrations, Freeland said he knew the day was coming.
“Well it was in the pipeline for at least two years now. I guess they just secured whatever financing they had to secure and they are on a project timeline, I imagine, and so they just went ahead,” he said.

Woooiiiieee
Ole time days
It was a lovely location; breezy and cool, with lots of playing space for the kids.
It's sad to see it all gone.
