Hard Knaxx Undeterred

Hard Knaxx UndeterredAntigua St. John's - The 2011 Party Monarch winner Joel “Hard Knaxx” Lewis said he has no regrets about his performance on Saturday night, though he did not succeed in defending his title.

Hard Knaxx's high energy performance of “I Baba” had the crowd chanting and jumping but fell flat with the judges, who did not place him in the top three.

The artiste, whose hit song “Kentucky” also earned him the road march title last year, said he is proud of what he did on competition night.

"It was not a fluke. I am really an energetic young person, very confident and pushing Antigua to the world. All my songs are original, I didn't get any songs from Trinidad," he said with pride.

Hard Knaxx was outfitted like a zombie with his face painted black and white, while his dancers, some dressed as witches, "flew" onto the stage on a zip line for what he describes as the "Thriller Soca".

The song symbolised the rising of young artistes, Hard Knaxx said, despite attempts to keep them down, pointing to his exclusion from major shows in the lead-up to carnival as a prime example.

The artiste's decision to verbally hit back at some of his competitors drew strong criticisms from some who suggested questioning the sexuality of one of the contenders was in poor taste.

Asked about this, Hard Knaxx said: " It wasn't a low blow, it was a face blow. They were calling up my name."

His overall performance has earned him the praise of Minister responsible for Culture Eleston Adams who said, "He gained my respect even more after his performance on Saturday."

The minister informed that he has been made aware of allegations that Hard Knaxx was deliberately left out of the line-up for shows.

"I think this thing was brewing because of the situation with the CDC chairman. I have heard that Winter has been able to secure a lot of jobs this year, whether true or not, because O'Marde is his manager, while Hard Knaxx was not able to secure jobs," the minister said.

"I personally believe he should have appeared on one of the CDC shows."

Adams surmised this could have been due to a combination of good management by the Tian Winter team, and backlash from the Antigua public to Hard Knaxx's performance in Trinidad this year during the International Soca Monarch competition.

Meanwhile, the minister has commended the Carnival Development Committee, in particular the sub-committees, on their work during the just-ended festivity that saw most shows starting on time.

As attention turns to payment of artistes and service providers, Adams said he is hopeful the Ministry of Finance delivers the prize monies for carnival winners within the agreed period.

A three-month payment plan was arranged in April by the CDC and the Working Committee of Carnival Artistes Association amid protest by artistes over the issue of registration.

Adams said, "I think from the CDC perspective, it did what it ought to do to guarantee or to ensure that payments are made but the final decision is left with the Ministry of Finance. It will determine what time the monies are paid out."

Keep on rising hard knaxx, you are an excellent entertainer and yet a very nice and humble young man who is destined for greatness. I saw you for the first time during Barbuda's Caribana and I am impressed. You did it again in NYC over the summer. Keep your head up and keep your head on.

Seconds after Norell Joseph from zdk posted on his facebook page that the new CDC Chairman was Kayode Omarde, i commented that I believe he can do a good job but I asked, Isn't this 'conflict of interest', him being Tian's manager and I also said that in HIS interest, he should make a decision because he would be under severe scrunity and many persons like myself, are not comfortable with this. Well I also had alot to say for the past 4 months and NOT MUCH PERSONS thought it would be a problem and those who shared my opinion, DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY PUBLICLY. So how now everybody speaking out about what they should have done 4 months ago?

Am I reading right??? ... "Adams surmised this could have been due to a combination of good management by the Tian Winter team, and backlash from the Antigua public to Hard Knaxx's performance in Trinidad this year during the International Soca Monarch competition." ...

Yes ... good management when your manager is the head of the same CDC who is awarding the CDC contracts? And what does public backlash from his T&T performance (if their was such a backlash) have to do with the CDC highlighting last years winners at the various CDC shows?

Shame on CDC Chairman

#9 Suzette Hector » 2012-08-09 12:30

He should have known that he could not manage Tian and still be in charge of Carnival. he should not have taken the position. or he should have resigned as tian's manager. now he has tainted tian's win. a cloud will forever remain over tian's so called 2 crowns. given to him by rule changes and xlaxiaxixm all with the help of the cdc chairman/his manager.

"I personally believe he should have appeared on one of the CDC shows."

I guess the Opening of Carnival does not constitute as a "show". From what I saw there were no artist on any two "shows".
Neither can you infringe on a promoter's right to choose who they want on their fetes....are you funding them?? Are you assisting in organizing them???

It's funny that the Minister of Culture is getting caught up in all these Carnival Conspiracy Theories, it's only going to look bad on him....seems more like he has an axe to grind with the CDC Chairman. Shame on you!!

"Hard Knaxx now got my respect after Saturday".... so what did he have before?
antigua been complaining for weeks prior to the show of the injustice being handed out to the reigning King, and he as Minister keep quiet like a mouse. Well, tell him to continue to be quiet. People want to believe Kayode is this sweet-heart Chairman that would'nt raise a finger to help out Tian if he could,... and that Tian is a goody-too-shoe that wouldnt hit Destroyer first. Well, the public statement release by 'CDC Management & Tian Winter' about the event proved to me their one and the same. Whether Tian right or wrong, CDC done display their on Tian side,... and for that alone, i hope young destroyer win his civil suit against TIan / CDC Management et al.....

I am a fan of Jungle for life even before they hit the big stage i was impressed to see a set of young educated antiguans with very little resources doing their thing. This year Hard Knaxx came out harded than I expected he performance was A Class too say the least. Now he never hit Tian no low blow, because he never called his name; since when he name "SheAnn", now on the other hand Tian called his there is an old saying "play balls, take rubbers" & another "don't throw stones if you have glass windows". If Tian no want nobody talk bout he mek people lone. Hard Knaxx Congratutations are Well in order you did exceptionally well. I babba to the World. You would go up in the history books King Hard Knaxx.
The obeah Man, The Witches & The Dancers was off the chain and You selloff.

What about those DJays

#2 sitco » 2012-08-08 23:08

Most Djs did not play hard knaxx song on the radio denying the public the right to hear the song. Most people heard the song for the first time at party monarch and enjoy it to the fullest, If song was promoted on the radio hardknaxx would have been the road march king. The way i see people dancing to the song during party monarch, carnival monday and tuesday was amazing.

Why didnt the minister step in using his capacity before to try and help Hard Knaxx to secore some jobs on some shows rather than wait until now> we as Antiguans are always so "post" with our actions. the other point i want to make why should he wait until after carnival to show that he has a bit of problem with the Chairman being apart of Tian Winter management team. he knew befor the chairman"s appointment that he had that kink with Tian. this is like throwing the chairmon out in the fire now.
