Antigua St. John's - Authorities have pulled off yet another J'ouvert celebration that was free of any major incidents of crime.
Police Public Relations Officer Senior Sergeant William Holder has attributed this to quick action by law enforcement officers on Carnival Monday.
"During the J'ouvert what we had was the presence of the police and the army. What they were doing was the moment they saw any situation that could have led to an altercation, they would move in and remove the persons," he said.
"It was unlike earlier the morning when you had a few wounding incidents."
None of those pre-
J'ouvert stabbings was said to be life-threatening.
Chairman of the Carnival Development Committee Kayode O'Marde has said the new shortened route worked well in preventing lulls between bands.
The route for the 3 am to 10 am celebration took revelers on Independence Drive, travelled down Redcliffe Street, made a right onto Thames Street, another right onto High Street, and right onto Independence Drive.
As attention turns to Tuesday's Parade of the Bands, scheduled to begin at 11 am, the police appealed to residents "not to walk with weapons such as scissors and knives."
Senior Sergeant Holder called for other measures to be observed, such as, driving within the speed limit, and without being under the influence of alcohol.
He also encouraged car pooling to reduce the number of vehicles being parked on the city streets.
