Jaycees Queen Competition Underway

2011 Jaycees Queen Miss St Kitts/Nevis Iantavian QueeleyAntigua St. John's - Fourteen beauties from across the Caribbean have joined Antigua & Barbuda’s newest Queen of Carnival Renee Laronde, as they compete in the 2012 Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show.

The pageant, which is slated for Friday, August 3, at Antigua & Barbuda’s Carnival City, saw its preliminary competition on Wednesday at the Dean William Lake Cultural Center. At that event the beauties were prejudged for an elimination that will see their numbers reduced to 10 on the official night of competition.

Present at the preliminary competition was Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda Dame Louise Lake-Tack among other dignitaries from the various countries.



However the main focus of the evening were the beauties, who included Anguilla’s Olufunmike Bank-Devonish; Antigua’s Renee Laronde; Barbados’ Zoe Trotman; Abigail Hyndman from the BVI; Jurnalis Henson of Curacao; Nadira Lando of Dominica and Suzan Castano Sena of the Dominican Republic.

Also included is Guyana’s Kiswana Jefford; Jamaica’s Krystle Daley; Montserrat’s Claris Yearwood; Ashley Massiah of St. Croix; Kalia Huggins of St. Kitts; Roxanne Didier-Nicholar of St. Lucia; Carice Glasgow of St. Vincent; and Trinidad & Tobago’s Davia Chambers.

Come this Friday the 3th, the queens will be reduced to 10 in the first segment of the show. The contestants will be judged based on three categories - swimsuit, evening wear and talent.

The 10 finalists will then be reduced to 5, from which the winner and runners up will be chosen through a question and answer segment.

2011 Jaycees Caribbean Queen Miss St Kitts/Nevis Iantavian Queeley was on hand to witness Wednesday night’s preliminary competition. The outgoing Caribbean Queen wished the delegates all the best and encouraged them above all else to make the best of the experience.

The contestants were judged on poise and presentation among other areas that will determine their placement in Friday’s competition.
