Antigua St. John's - LIME Antigua & Barbuda has filed a complaint to the Carnival Development Committee (CDC) for what it describes as a “breach of an existing carnival contract” regarding the title sponsorship of the Halcyon Steel Orchestra.

Halcyon Steel on Friday changed their title-sponsorship allegiance from Hadeed Group of Companies to Digicel, a rival telecommunications company to LIME.

LIME is the official sponsor for the 2012 Carnival activities under the CDC and part of that contract, according to information reaching Caribarena, bars any major sponsorship from direct competitors.

Reports indicate that the contract is so tight that a band member of one of the competitors of the soca competition was forced to leave the stage during the semi finals two weeks ago.

CDC Chairman Kayode O’Marde has reportedly mandated CDC Official Maurice Merchant to respond to the complaint by LIME.

Troy Byrne, Marketing Manager for Digicel Antigua, said his company had only learnt about the issue after being contacted by Caribarena, and as of 5pm on Monday the CDC had not informed them of any issues regarding its Panorama sponsorship. He said however that Digicel will be looking into the matter and responding accordingly.

In the meantime reliable sources have advised Caribarena that the Pan Association has sent an official request to the CDC to have the part of the rule that speaks to the issue of “time on stage” be made null and void for panorama 2012.

The request has arisen because of the limited maneuvering space on stage for member bands.

The stage in Carnival City this year is said to be some 12 feet smaller than the 2011 stage – and this makes the complaints about maneuvering space that were tabled last year even more significant today.
