Antigua St John's - A Grecian temple. Yep, in Antigua. That is what Beautiful People call their mas camp for Carnival 2012.

Prospective and existing mas players got an up-close-and-personal look at Beautiful People’s costumes as the mas camp on Queen Elizabeth Highway opened on April 27. And boy, were they mesmerized by what they saw. The costumes, under the theme “Angels Gods & Goddesses” had been launched on April 14 at Royal Antiguan.

Band leader Calvin S addressed the gathering and thanked past and present mas players and sponsors, and also challenged them to play mas in a responsible manner, setting positive examples for the nation’s children to follow.

He also encouraged mas players to register, with $100 being applied to any section, and a special incentive to those who register early of being entitled to a discount if they register and pay in full by the end of May.

Also addressing the ceremony was current CDC chairman Kiyode Omarde, who also thanked Beautiful People for their participation in Carnival 2012 despite the economic and other challenges facing the nation and by extension the world.

Then came the moment most were waiting for. The ribbon was cut by Cassandra Southwell and the opening of the “Grecian Temple,” followed by a walkthrough of the costumes by band leader Calvin S. 

The mas band leader also made an announcement of the management of TKO (formerly Tonic Band) by Calvin S, and the attendees got a special taste of lead singer Laureena’s “Roll” for Carnival 2012.

To top the evening off, the attendees were treated, in Grecian style, to wine as they mingled with the Beautiful People Family and looked at the costumes in a party atmosphere with background music by TKO for Carnival 2012.
