Citizens Welfare Hosts Monitoring and Counselling Camp

Welfare Division Camp OpensAntigua St. John’s - Residents of the Boys’ Training School and the Sunshine Home for Girls are among 40 participants in a two-week monitoring and counselling camp currently under way at New Winthorpes Primary School.

The camp, organised by the Citizen’s Welfare Division in the Ministry of Social Transformation, will engage the group in activities that promote socialisation and leadership skills and expose them to food preparation, craft, martial arts and computer training, among other activities.

In giving an overview of the camp, Chief Welfare Officer Cindy Price spoke of how the economic downturn has affected the camp, which has been a regular occurrence since 1997.

“We have seen many changes to the camp over the years. The number of campers has decreased, the camp duration has also shortened and the money available to fund the camp has also mirrored the realities of the day; however, we press on…our staff and assistants have been dedicated,” Price said.

The camp wraps on July 27.
