Dear Doc. Thanks for such an insightful article. My mother told me the same thing also. However I believe I was made for the night. I actually come alive at night. I am more alert in the night times than in the morning hours. When I use to study, I would sleep as soon as I come from school and wake up at about 12:00AM. The I would be up studying and go straight to school in the morning. Hoping that exams were that day in the morning hours. Later in live I felt at my best when I got a night job as Night Manager in a Hotel, Starting at 10:00PM till 6:00AM. When I reach home I would have breakfast and then go to bed. Cause this was confusing for my wife and kids, but for me that was the ideal time to work. Even now typing this comment it is done at about 1:00AM. It’s a pity I need to go to sleep cause I need to get up in the morning. Therefore I believe night time is not really for sleeping for everyone. People like me are called Night People.(Vampire s perhaps)

Dr. Simon, you are stating the facts of SWSD. I worked the midnight shift for several years and sometimes during my busy shift or at the end of my shift, fire rescue had to be called to transport me to the emergency room with heart palpitation and high blood pressure.

Very insightful article, doctor. Something tells me that the late singer Michael Jackson might have benefited had he taken your advice and not resorted to medication to cure his chronic insomnia....it only made it worse, as has been well documented. I myself am well aware of the perils of lack of proper rest, and the many ailments that follow. Fortunately, I have learned to adjust my lifestyle to lessen the problem. Great work with these essays!
