Antigua Makes History with the Rubis Brand

Rubis BrandAntigua St John's - Customers accessing services at Texaco Service stations across the island will soon be noticing a new look.

The Texaco signs are now being replaced by the Rubis brand.

Rubis is an established French-based petroleum company specialising in fuel and liquid propane gas.

A reliable source has informed Caribarena.com that Antigua & Barbuda has made history by being the first in the Eastern Caribbean to have the service stations rebranded.

So far, two of the seven Texaco service stations on the island have already been rebranded to Rubis. They are E & E’s Service Station in Jennings and Dee’s Service Station at the corner of Old Parham Road and Sir George Walter Highway.

A soft launch is expected to be held at these two establishments late next week, but an official launch will take place when all the stations have been rebranded. This is anticipated to occur before yearend.

According to the source, the rebranding process at the two stations was completed in about 10 days and they will continue to provide the excellent customer service and great quality products to which the public is accustomed.

Since 2000, Rubis has expanded its presence across three continents Africa, Europe and the Caribbean through direct investments and acquisitions.

The Rubis brand will be also be launched in Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, St. Lucia, St. Kitts & Nevis and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Rubis is also a leading supplier of premium aviation fuels in the Eastern Caribbean.

The Rubis shipping, supply and trading function is based in Barbados and supports the core business by trading refined fuels.

I'm still curious why there are so many attendants? Why not drive the prices down by allowing customers to pump their own gas? It would be great to pull up to a station, pay at the pump, pump gas, and go; instead of pulling up to a pump and have to wait for an attendant stroll over, giving you chups for inconveniencing their day to come pump your gas.

"Lipstick on a pig; its still a pig." Putting new outfit on a service station does'nt make it any easier for the consumers who have to purchase fuel on a daily basis. With adjustments being made to the price of crude in the fuel market, i wonder when Antigua will be lucky to see an adjustment of a lesser price per gallon?

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock. Another North Atlantic Privateer continues the legacy of trading places amongst these Caribbean Islands and sadly the writer, bereft of history, notes that Antigua makes History. How do we rid ourselves of such ignorance in the 21st Century, some thirty years into Independence? Did this writer not know that these islands traded allegiance, some several times, to the North Atlantic Nations for Centuries?

It just superficial. The stations are sticking to their cash only payment systems. In Guadeloupe and Martinique you can drive up to a pump and stick in you're credit or debit card to pay for gas. Here you need cash or cheque if you have an account with the gas station. Difficult for people who actually work on a monthly budget when you need to reconcile your monthly statements.

Texaco has abandoned the Antiguan market. That's interesting.

fnspr, I found myself pondering the same think. Specifically I am trying to figure what benefit this brings the consumers who are hit hard by the high fuel prices

It is too early to say; however, it is possible that the new company (Rubis) will provide better pay, more benefits (employee, social and environmental), better efficiency, etc.

How does the re-branding help Antigua?
