Gregg Zacky Bows Out

Gregg Zacky Bows OutAntigua St John's - Caribarena.com has received a statement issued by Gregg Zacky, whose name has been linked to the possible establishment of a major poultry operation in Antigua & Barbuda.

In his statement Gregg Zacky announces his withdrawal from participation from any poultry business in Antigua & Barbuda, citing health reasons.

The Gregg Zacky statement takes pains to distance the proposed venture, as proposed by his associate Ron Mann, from any connection whatever to Zacky Farms LLC, the California-based poultry giant.

Gregg Zacky also makes it clear that use of the “Zacky” name itself in connection with the operation now solely attributed to Ron Mann was improper and unauthorized.

Dr. McChesney Emanuel, Chairman of the Antigua & Barbuda Investment Authority, recently announced the poultry venture was receiving consideration from government, and that a ground-breaking ceremony was in the cards for later in 2012.

The operation, which would have required upwards of 1000 acres of land in blocks of at least 20 acres each, was touted to provide 600 construction jobs at the outset and 800 permanent jobs at full capacity. The produce would have been marketed in Antigua & Barbuda and the CARICOM region.

Doubts were initially raised when Scott Zacky, brother to Gregg and CEO of Zacky Farms LLC, contacted Caribarena to deliver a serious warning to Antigua & Barbuda against engaging in any venture involving his brother.

The other shoe has now dropped.

June 9, 2012 Sherman Oaks, CA.

Gregg Zacky has announced today that effective immediately he is withdrawing from any poultry business venture in Antigua/Barbuda due to health reasons.

He is not to be considered a founder, shareholder, stakeholder or participant in any manner in the proposed poultry operation.

Gregg further states, "Due to an advancing health condition, I feel that at this time it would be in my best interest, and that of my family, that I concentrate all my efforts on returning to good health.  Business opportunities will always be there, but without your health, you can't enjoy anything."

Gregg goes on further to state for the record that Zacky Farms, LLC, a California corporation, never was involved in nor had any prior knowledge of any poultry project in Antigua/Barbuda, and any reports to the contrary are completely false.

Additionally, the use of the 'Zacky' name in the business proposal was wrong and potentially misleading, as neither Ron Mann nor I had never asked for or received authorization from Zacky Farms, LLC to do so.

I wish Ron Mann well with his project, and may it bring the people of Antigua/Barbuda much needed jobs and access to fresh poultry, the Gregg Zacky statement concludes.

NOT GOOD FOR ANTIGUA & BARBUDA

#22 Avid Reader » 2012-06-13 11:21

What is unbelievable about this is that Mac Emmanuel actually have a job, Antiguans should be asking for his termination and the end to his office which is a waste of money.

No way should his i's not have been dotted and his t's crossed. Antiguans look like a blundering bag of idiots with this kind of fiasco, which could have been averted if he had done a decent job, not a good one, just a decent one.

it is mind boggling that this kind of thing can continously happen in this country, the PM and Lovell need to be held accountable for this kind of fiasco. It doesn't take much to do feasibility studies, and put cost associated plans in place. Just require a little research which seemed to have been lacking here.

No one doubts the investment is gone, but even if it was finalized, there would still be criticism. There is a need for us to be self-sufficient , since we import fattoo much, there is an opening now, so there is an opportunity for local investment.

The issue surrounding land is always an issue, lands should be leased and not given away. How many of you truly remember, the thousand of acres given to R Allen Stanford, Dato Tan, and many ALP stalwarts whose sons and daughters are now beneficiaries. Yes, land were given away around the Dry hill area, Freetown, Ottos, Falmouth, Emerald Cove etc..

This administration subscribes to the theory, "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS". Don't for a moment think that this little mishap will in any way affect the ground breaking ceremony for the project. Dr Fast Talker will convince the Clueless Wonder, Dr Dr BS, that they must push ahead with the project. One thing with this UPP administration, they have never allowed reality to cloud their misguided dreams.

Who can forget the "soft opening" of the "Cyarn Park"? I think they said the time capsule will be opened in 100 years.

Well my words did not fall to the ground. I told this nation that this was all a hoax; Mac Emanuel et all all lied to us to make the UPP look good and to let the nation feel that there was hope as far as employment is concerned. Lies, lies and more lies. I clearly remembered telling a public meeting ar 46 North Street that the nubers suggested for this project were soooooooo unreal. How could Mr. Emanuel, Harold Lovell, BS et all allow themselves to be so easily fooled? It is clear we have a bunce of dunces running our country. I am listening to hear the hen crow on this one. Mr. Emanuel, perhaps you can have a ground breaking for a crab factory insted. You guys are really dumb.

I love it! Real world experience (RWE). I have been suggesting this for some time. It is good to see sky coming around: Let's extend RWE to the politicians and Antigua will be a better place!!

Why is everyone on Skyewill's case? He comes across as a "quasi-Antiguan ." I would expect ppl to get on the case of a true Antiguan, not someone who brags about his time in the US and constantly appears as though belittling ANU by comparing it to the US.. Give the man a break nuh.

There are investments, and then there are investments. The Fast Talker is single-handedly doing his share to keep the hotel stay-over numbers up. Just think of the investment the government of A&B is making to St. James' Club

Skyewill, did Dr Macky had a choice in taking the position! I recalled him stating in a press conference with Lovell that he is going to turn the "economy" around with "investments." And, as, NY Consul General, how many investments has he brought to our shores, compared to his own company in the other Caribbean territories? It is not the peoples fault that has not "delivered!" If the PM fires him, who is to blame? Whether or not Dr Macky "just started the job," this is a total "emba**ment" to the people! Skyewill, let us be "unbiased" as well in our own **sment, when it comes to the country's economic crisis or future, as friends or family shouldn't "influenced" us in calling a shade a shade! I couldn't care the last name behind a citizen of this doing a good job or bring "sound" investments to our shores, I will give him or her the credit he or she deserves!

Where is the surprise here? The Fast Talker didn't disappoint. He is around to ratchet-up the propaganda machine as he did in the past. They have done absolutely nothing for 8 years, and with an election approaching, the Fast Talker has been resurrected, dusted off and made fit for public consumption again – only this time, there is no Stanford to demonise. He job is to convince us not to believe our lying eyes.

skyewil I wish you would provide some details on how you saw our giving these people 1K acres of land and them providing the number of jobs they stated feasible? I know you have a lot of respect for Mac but you need not let it blind you to reality. Mac is a talker, I recall his talk prior to 2004. How in God's world could these people create the number of jobs that was stated (800) when Zacky Farms employs 1500 persons for a US population of 311 million? CARICOM, including Haiti ( Haiti has a population of about 10 million)has a total population of about 17 million. Electricity, the number one cost factor for this kind of business, is also cheaper in all of the bigger islands. Sky, instead of emotionalism make your case with facts.

I respectfully disagree this can not be compared to WPP in no way. Let's continue to be unbiased, ok? I do believe a chicken farm is a great idea. People eat chicken and if a modern and well managed facility comes on line and provide jobs that would be fantastic so we should be routing for it to work. Ms Spence, Mac just started the job and that one is not going to be easy. In the interest of being fare if you had some good ideas I'm sure Mr. Emanuel would love to hear them. I believe they need a team that knows how investors think with real world experiene and a love for Antigua, not for the money but because they want to see our people prosper at every level. Maybe they look at things from the administrative instead of the operational/tra nsactional view. I hope they have a well trained and experienced underwriter who looks for proof & source of funds to close the deal. In any case seems like the other partner maybe still in for now. Lets see what happens. What our country needs is our support.

It would be interesting to know who flew the coop on this one. What's next, wait for more promises? I hope this serve as a lesson that the answers to ANU's economic development, progress, and prosperity are the citizens within the borders of the nation. If the citizens are empowered and given opportunities, we would all be singing "Aint no stopping us now, we're on the move."

#4 Dig It » 2012-06-11 08:12

Well, I guess there will no "ground-breakin g" later in the year! And, at least, we could say that the "omen" of Scott Zacky finally came through, as he "warn" ABIA and the people that his brother, Gregg, was not to be taken "seriously!" The operation required "1,000 acres of land, 600 construction jobs and 800 permanent jobs." This sounds good on paper when it was "announced" but the public NEVER had any input on how this operation will be carried-out with the amount of electricity required (given we are always having block outs on the island), environmental impact studies, and how much the business was willing to pay our workers (peanuts or decent salaries). All in all, the Zacky-Man venture was too "big," "costly" and "risky" to operate in this country! Let us hope the authorities find an "alternative" investment by the end of this year, so we could have a "ground-breakin g!"

Mac Emmanuel has embar**ed his Prime Minister! He should be fired! But then again many others would also have to be fired for worse infractions against the voters of Antigua and Barbuda! So I guess we can continue as usual without any kind of accountability!

I wonder though in vain if those in authority who pushed this ridiculous unfeasible idea as being sold would take the time to apologize to the people of this country. This is the second example today, the first being the WPP. Perhaps we will start using doing feasibility studies the then opposition used to tout before 2004
