Antigua & Barbuda is joining the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union in observing Financial Information Month. This marks the ninth year of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank’s programme to promote awareness and understanding of financial and economic issues during October.
This year’s theme is, Make Your Dreams a Reality…Save and Invest Wisely.
Financial Secretary Whitfield Harris noted that over the past nine years, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and its government and financial sector partners have been educating the people of the currency union on how to make wise savings and investment choices.
"Their savings and investment courses and other awareness-building interventions have helped the region become more discerning about which financial products available on the market would offer the right balance of risk and return," he said. "Scores of families have also benefitted from the educational tools aimed at teaching the simple budgeting exercises that enable the typical household to remain solvent in the face of the fiscal challenges being faced by the governments of the currency union."
This year’s Financial Information Month incorporates a series of initiatives to support the goal of "a financially developed and vibrant ECCU region that fosters strong and sustainable economic growth and the improved well-being of the citizenry."
In addition to several activities and media programmes planned, the ECCB will also hold a Dreams To Reality contest. Harris invited citizens and residents of Antigua & Barbuda to share their success stories in this regard.
