Arts and Crafts Sector Analysis Completed

Caribbean Arts and Crafts The findings of a diagnostic review of the arts and craft sector are to be released on November 17 at the Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute (ABHTI).

The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States Export Development Unit (OECS EDU) will host the event in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, the Economy and Public Administration (Trade, Industry and Commerce).

The consultation from which the findings were derived took place on October 13 with consultants from Manzanare Design Solutions Ltd, a representative of the OECS EDU, and various stakeholders in the sector.

Similar consultations were also held in the other eight member territories of the OECS.

A critical aspect of the review included field visits to craft producers, which gave a practical analysis of their capacity and constraints.

The overall objective was to:

•    Establish the current status of the sector and its contribution to the economies of the OECS
•    Develop a technical assistance plan and a strategy for increasing products
•    Identify potential markets for the OECS arts and craft sector
•    Develop a five-year strategic plan for the sector.

The presentation will begin at 8:30 am. Similar country presentations will follow in the other OECS member states.
