Calling Artists for 2nd Art Juried Exhibition

Antigua St. John’s - Art At The Ridge is calling for Antigua & Barbuda-based artists between the ages of 19 and 39 to submit their work for its 2nd Juried Art Exhibition.

Antigua & Barbuda has a diverse and thriving art community and Art At The Ridge continues to raise the profile of the island’s artists nationally, regionally, and internationally.

Art At The Ridge’s 1st Juried Art Exhibition was held in November last year and attracted many of the island’s well-known and seasoned artists, as well as new and budding artists.

This year the exhibition hopes to attract young talented artists who may or may not have already made a name for themselves in the island’s art community.

“We are keen to support and promote our younger artists, to help them realise their creative ambitions and to bring a new and fresh outlook to our island’s art scene,” the organisers said.

The winner of last year’s Juried Art Exhibition was Naydene Gonnella, an extremely accomplished artist who trained in Canada and Italy. Originally from Canada, Gonnella has been based in the Caribbean for many years and in Antigua for 10.

Her artwork exhibits and sells throughout the island and worldwide. She will be one of the judges in this year’s event, where one winner will again be selected.

Last year’s entrants included 19-year-old Shanice M LaPierre Armande who decided to study art following positive response to her work at Art At The Ridge’s 1st Juried Art Exhibition. After spending a year building her art portfolio, LaPierre Armande has just started an art course at a university in the Netherlands.

Another entrant from last year, Glenroy Aaron a graduate of Antigua State College has since exhibited his artwork at various venues on island, including the Jumby Bay Art Show and has successfully sold some of his pieces.
